New York, NY (October 06, 2003) - HarperCollins Publishers today announced that its ReganBooks imprint has acquired world rights to publish an historical memoir by General Tommy R. Franks. The deal was negotiated by Judith Regan, President and Publisher of ReganBooks, with Marvin Josephson, founder of ICM and Chairman of ICM Holdings Inc.

“To publish General Franks, one of the most important, powerful and extraordinary figures in our nation’s history, is a momentous opportunity.” said Jane Friedman, President and CEO of HarperCollins Publishers. “His presence, grace and intelligence in telling his story of leadership and success will captivate the country.”

“General Franks’ story not only addresses the key issues of leadership and modern warfare at a critical juncture in world history, it is also an inspired tale of a young soldier who rose through the ranks of the U.S. Army to the position of Commander-in-Chief of the United States Central Command, in charge of U.S. military operations for 25 nations. It is an honor to publish such an important historical work and one which will create a greater understanding of the challenges we all face today,” said Regan.

A distinguished graduate of the Artillery Officer Candidate School in Fort Sill, Oklahoma in 1967, General Franks has risen through the ranks of the U.S. Army through his illustrious 35-year military career. General Tommy R. Franks was the Commander-in-Chief of the United States Central Command from July, 2000 to July, 2003. He was the U.S. general leading the attack on the Taliban in Afghanistan in response to the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and The Pentagon. General Franks also led the 2003 invasion of Iraq and the overthrow of Saddam Hussein and was commander-in-chief of the American occupation forces.
